The co-owners of the Latvian airline Air Baltic are planning to open a new airline based in Vilnius. The co-owners of the Latvian air company Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas (BAS) announced that the new airline will start operating in April and by 2015 to operate routes to 28 destinations from Vilnius.

It is ironic, but it was mainly due to actions Air Baltic few years ago (BAS owns 47.2 per cent of Air Baltic shares) that killed the struggling Lithuanian air carrier FlyLAL. The loos of the FlyLAL doomed the Vilnius International airport for a long stagnation period, from which it has successfully recovered already to become the second largest airport in the Baltic States.

Kristian Krichhiner, one of the co owners of the BAS announced that they are planning to attract the Lithuanian and international investors. Krichhiner especially highlighted that the Lithuanian capital is very welcome. The initial investment to the company will be EUR 1 million but ‘We expect to increase it to EUR 20 million at a later stage,’ Kristian Kirchheiner, a co-owner of Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas said a press conference in Vilnius on 20 September.

Baltic News Service asked Bertolt Flick, the president of Air Baltic and a co-owner of BAS, if the Lithuanian Government could be one of the possible investors in the company. Flick answered that the BAS “is open to all proposals.” Lithuania’s Transport Minister Eligijus Masiulis would not confirm that Lithuanian Government would invest to the new company, but it will help to open the new company in every possible way.

Only in January the new company’s name will be reviled. The BAS is planning to start its operation with three Boeing 737 planes, later to expand its fleet to five Boeing 737 and five Bombardier Q400 aircraft. The co-owners of the BAS revealed that the company should fly to Dublin, Paris, Munich, Rome, Istanbul and Moscow. It also intends to operate charter flights to Majorca, Athens and Hurghada. In 2013 the new airline is planning to open routes to Brussels, Frankfurt, Tel Aviv, Milan, Malaga and other destination. The company pledges that by 2015 it will offer routes to 28 destinations.

The Air Baltic has attracted a huge amount of criticism from the Lithuanian passengers due to its poor services and prolonging journeys by directing most of the lights via Riga International Airport. The company has cut the direct flights to various EU destination not only form the Vilnius Airport but also from the Tallinn airport.

Some of the Lithuanians are convinced that a declaration of the BAS to open an airline in Lithuania is a bluff. According to them the Air Baltic share holders are pressurising the main share holder of Air Baltic, the Latvian Government. http://www.lithuaniatribune.com/2010...uanian-market/

Riga International Airport has threatened to cut off services to the region's largest airline, airBaltic, on Friday unless the company pays for them up front.

The funds have to be paid by noon on Friday or the airport will stop providing services at 16:00, novosti.err.ee reported, citing an article on nozare.lv.

The action comes after airBaltic refused to enter into a settlement agreement with the airport over the more than 7 million euros the airline owes.

Częstotliwość bez zmian - codziennie jeden raz, czyli tyli ile z LIN do RIX maksymalnie można. Z możliwością krajowych przesiadek w siatce AZ.
