HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) -- Authorities say a small airplane crashed on a street in a Henderson residential neighborhood this morning, killing one person and critically injuring three others.
A police spokesman says it's a miracle that no one on the ground was killed by the crash of a small plane in a residential area just south of Las Vegas.
The single-engine plane crashed about 30 feet from a house in suburban Henderson. One of the wings struck a retaining wall at a residence. The main body of the fuselage came to rest in the street.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sgt. John Sheahan says two males and two females were aboard the single-engine Piper Cherokee when it crashed on Clover Field Court.
Sheahan says the injured were taken to a hospital after suffering life-threatening burns and trauma.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the plane took off from the Henderson airport shortly after 8 this morning and was unable to gain altitude. The pilot tried to return to Henderson but crashed.
No one on the ground was injured.
Henderson is located just south of Las Vegas.
